Full grown, able bodied tramps are pleuty ;his sunimer and those who give tliem food are just as foolish as the tramp is azy. It is all 'wrong. It encourages oafing boys in our country cities and vilhi-cs to take up this "industry"- ramping. It is said that the castor oil plant is a valuable protection against mosquitoes -that planted about the house it will lrive them away, and that young planta n the rooms or leaves placed about will completely rid the house of these pests. This is very important, if trne, and is easily testéd. People out at the lakes are especially recommended to plant these beans near their cottages or teuts. It is said that devotiou to pets is an indication of gentleness of heart. White this may be so in a general way, we do not believe that the keeping of a measly dog which is always ready and anxious to fight some of his kind or bite a helpless child, is an indication of a gentle disposition or kind heart, and yet some people never seeni to be real happy without just this kind of a cur hanging around their heels. - Fenton Independent. German-American Day will be celebrated at Dexter August 12. The speakers will be Hon. H. WirtNewkirk, and Louis J. Lisemer, two of Ann Arbor's famous orators, who will speak in English and Germán. Ernest Elsasser is president of the day, Jacob Heller, secretary, J. Jedele, marshal. The people of Dexter are making arrangements to receive and care for the crowd that will be present, and invite all the people of the county to come. A new phase has arisen in the matter of the Bridgewater tragedy an account of which given our readers last week. Instead of the man James doing the shooting, it is now believed that the girl Martha Minor did it herself. The fact that his body was cold when found, and that she had been recently shot confirms this theory. There are other things also that tend to make this theory believed. The girl, who lived severa! days afterward, finally died on Friday last, never becoming. conscious enough to teil the secret of the tragedy, and it was buried with lier.
