The hospital physician should be & man of the most thorough methoda and the most extreme conservatisru. Hè should be chosen as ranch for his prao tical good sense as for his skill in diagnosing disease. He should be a man with intnitions and ought to be able to decide almost at a glance whether a pa-tient is suffering froin brain trouble oí alcoholism. There have been of late a great man? instances where this mistake bas been made, and it is by no rueans creditable to the hospital aathorities wheu snch blunders are made. One of the latest exploits of a hospital doctor was to order a cold bath for a consumptive patiënt who showed some symptorus of hysteria. Shortly after the bath the wonian died. Just why a doctor should order such treatment conimon sense as well as the medical professiou would like very rnuch to know. Hospitals are in the main supported by tho people, and the people have a right to good treatment and courtesy at the hands of those who are put iu charge of such institutions. Failing to receive this, the public has also the right to demand au investigation of the situatiou and to demand the punisb ment of those who are guilty of such nnprofessioual and inhuman conduct and that their places be filled by those . who are more intelligent and better fit' ted for the duties and responsibilities of such a place.-
