Ü Brief Sketch of Their Beauties and Attractions. Bay View, Mich., Aiijí. '10 -The week iiiat has just closetl bus heen one of the most perfect that the nurthern Michigan xesorts have experienced tliis year; and it was the more enjoynble by having followed so closely apou aweektcoeold almost for comfort in soutliern Michigan. In short, the whole season witli the one exception of tlie cold week, has been an ideal one for all tl ie many attractive places about the resorts. In point of attendance the season has lieen a greater success than usual. Petoekey, wliose Bormal population is 4,500, has more ■han doublé its populatiou during the ïeason and its niany hotels have fre%uently turned away would-be guests. Bay View bas as usual become larfjely dépopulated since the close of tlieassembly program, hut the attendance upon the sumnier school and lecluie program has been 1 1 ie same as in the past two years. Mackinac Island has liad more than its usually large number of resorters, and The Grand bas been unable to ftccoïumodate all who have sought tliis aaagnificent suminer hotel. @n Little Traverse Bay, Petoskey is the central point and chief city. Here the ereater nuuiber of both long and short time suinmer tourists taUe up their abode, either in private houses or in gome of its beautiful and commodious liotels. A mile up the bay is Bay View, the seat of the Chautauqua assembly program aud suminer university, and also of the camp meeting áud hay fever sssociations. This point then is patronized by the numerous cottagers and those who come not alone for pleasure but for study aud educatiou as well. The inhabitants reach 3,000. Passing around the bay, Koaring Brook Inn is the next point of interest. This is a receutly constructed hotel of Sne propcrtions and equipments, located in one of the most picturesque places about the bay. Gurgling brooks and bubbling spriugs fall over the ledges and burst from the rocks. Ewther down the bay Wequetonsing 3 reached. This is quite distinctly a Presbyterian resort. While it lacks the natural rugged of Roaring Brook, it is, on the otherhand, equipped with most beautiful cottages among ■which are delightful walks aud grassy plats. Passing through Harbor Spings, Ilarïor Point, with its mauy wealth-suggesting cottages and numerous pretty boat houses, is reached. The place has the reputation of being very quiet and exslusive. From any of the resorts about, aumerous side trips may be bad at any time to picturesque trout streams and pretty inland lakes. For rugged rocks and mountainous scenery and points of üstoric interest, Mackinac Island is the lace to be sought.
