Charming little dresses for the young are made of the cheap lawns, organdíes and dimitiea of pretty, bright colors, which are now offered in great profusión, and ribbon, banda of insertion and lace edging are used to adorn them, but neatly rather than extravagantly. In the sketch is shown ono of the simplest of the season's modeg. It is a dress of lawn with fancy stitching above the hem and on the collar. The front of the waist has its Ifulness drswn well to the center hv pathers at the top and bottom and the bn . n similar arrangement of fulness al er. :i f 'Ie of the closing. The sleevea are ser. t. One sample in gray-and-black mixed diagonal bears brown lines; another üi navy-blue has fine green lines, and a third, also in navy-blue, has red lines. For general wear this material vvill have few rivals, either in the matter of durability or style. Cecilia cloth is a new solid-hued fabric which runs the gamut of the fashionable shades. It has a ünely twilled surface and a wide-wale under-surface. Another twilled material is Paquin serge m which the cord is raised. This, like all plain j fabrics, is fashionable in shades of purplo, j brown, Directoire-green - a tone between olive ; and hunter's green, the shade seen in the Di! rectoire coata worn in the beginning of the centiiry, and so often portrayed in genre paintinge of those times - and a rich, dark red. It ia said that red has become popular sineo ; the marriage of the Princesa Maude of Wales to Prince Charles of Denmark, red being a fuvorite Danish color. In one of the newer canvas weaves the threads are wiry and closely twisted and the mesh rather open. This exceptionally stylish fabric is knovvn as watch-cord étamine. Two distinct hues are representad in the material. A blue-and-green specimen is very attractive. A silk-and-wool canvas shows altérnate checks of light and dark purple or of brown in two tones. In a basket weave of canvas the effect of two shades is produced by tho varied weaviug of the small squares or checks. , The chapeau par excellence U of black velvet. It is a broad-brimmed, bell-crowned af: fair, heavily plumed and picturesque, as large hats are wont to be. The Gainsborough sha-pe serves as the model for all large hats, the simpes being varied to snit individual faces. In one the crown is lowered, in i another the brim is lessened and gently curved or bent up high at the back or at one sido. The disposition of trimming, too, is made with referenee to tho type of the wearer's face - : at the back, at the side or directly in front. A new caprice concentrates the trimming at the back - flowers outside the brim, which is usually turned up, and feathers spread fanwise inside to overshadow tho crown. The 1 effect is jaunty. Shirt-waists are made for house wear of faney Öannels havmg white linen collars and cuffs. Persian designs and colors are wonderfully soft and pleasing in flannel. Among the popular colorings in üannel are : Red with black or navy dots, navy with brown or white dots, and brown with red or light-blue dots. The oddest yet most harmouious of color medleys appear in very rough tweeds and cheviots. Ycllow is conspieuous in one sample of these Scotch goods in which are assembled green, brown, white and fawn. Flat loops of navy-blue attract the eye in another specimen, the color agreeing perfectly with mode, olive-green and dark-gray. Green and blue in very dark tones are mingled in a third, flne yellow and blue hairs being matted all over the surface which they animato. A mixture of purple, black and white In stül another specimen produces a very stylish effect. - From The Deiiaeator. Sehednie of Teachers' Examinations.
