But few lawyers have that strict regard for uprightness and honor that is firmly imbeded in the make ip of John F. Iiawrence. This characterüitic was brought out a few day's since in a case in Judge Newkirk's probate court. Lawrenee & Butterfield were retained by a cliënt wlio had evidently misrepresented things to them, and when it was proven by unimpeachable evidence that this cllent had atjemptedto buy up wunesses, and to manufacture testimony, Messrs. Lawrence & Butterfield at once dropped the case, Jlr. Lawrence remarking that he ''would not kuowingly help a man to obtain property dishonestly, and that he was convinced t hat his Client was not an honest man," or wordfl of like import. Wliilo it is not always the case, yet ín most instances when a lawyer engages liis services to a man, he fights it through riglit or wrong ; it makefi no difference to him ii he only gets his fees. "When an attorney has the true manliness to wash his hands oí a dirty or disreputable case, ii he happens to get in one, he is certainly deserving of praise.
