Literary Notes
Mrs. Burton Harrison has writteu a new novel of New York Life, entitled "Good Americans," and it will appear in The Century during the coming year. Mrs. Harrison is thoroughly familiar with metropolitan society, and contemporaneous social types and tendencies are mirrored and described in the story. A serial poem by James Whitcoinb Riley, which lie calis "The Rubaiyat of Doe Sifers," will be printed in the November and December numbers of The Century. Mr. Riley has in bis characteristic vein described a quaint aud lovable Hoosier village doctor, giving anecdotes and descriptions of the doctor's ways and doings from the point of view of an old fellow-townsmau. Mr. C. M. Relyea, the artist, has been sent to Indiana to draw from life the illustrations for the poem.
