The fainous Richards inurdér trial carne to an end lust Friday niorning, svheii the jury fiied in and gave their verdict. Robert Campbell wasforeman of the jury and he delivered the verdict: "Not inilty, becáuse the ré is a teason.able doubt," in snch a maimer as to remind oiie of the fainons Scotch verdict of "Guilty, hut nut proven." The verdict was réceived with iVelight by the uiaiiy friends of ihe prisoners in the audience, who we re neverely and justly repriman. led by Jadge Kirino for their lisplay of enthusiasm. There never has een a case in the circuit coprt that has been better tried thán this one. Prosecuting Attorney Kirk was assisted, and ably assisted too, by Hon. A. J. Sawyer, while Messis. Jones and Randall were assisted by Hon. John Atkinson and W. B. Cady, E.sq., of Detroit. Every inch of ground was fought over fiercely by tlie attorneys, and although there is a strong current of feeling as to the guilt of the prisoners in the public mind, vet the general verdict was that there was slight evidence on which toconvict. The previous good character and the faces of the prisoners Jones and Lyons were unuch in tlieir favor, few looking atthem cíoiild believe that they oould Ije guilty . of such i horrible crime. The guilty arty or parties will probably go free orever, for there is no evidence or susrícion that would point to any one as the inurderers of tliis oíd man.
