Tlit eouiity road system ia Michigan can be adopted by a majority ■vote in any county. Five road coninatsstOBers are elected, none of lioni can in any way be interested in nny contract tbat may be entered into by ibe Board. They have ïull power to lay oul county roads ; to change tlu; wtdth, direction or iocation of existing ones ; puvchase property ; Tin.itc witli adjacent counties in laylng out and maintaining roads ; adopt any road as a county road, exeept that in incorporated, villages tha consent oftbe vilLage must be obtaáned. Tbey can grade, iraim, grar rel, macadainize or iniprove in' any way according to thieir judgment; construct and maintain culverts and biidiges, but can contract 110 indebtededuess in excess oí tihe amount at their disposal in the hands of the county treasurer. A county may by rote bond itselior road puirposes and is liable for da.mages growing oui of tbeir bad condition. The system was adopted by Chippewa eounty in 1S94, bomde for $100,000 issued, and in two years ïollowing nearly 160 mües of raad were improved and bult to the satlisfactiaa of the people.- L,. A. W.
