The Century Magazine for the Coming Year. The Century Magazine, with its November number, enters upon its twentvseventh year. During its longexistence, by reason of its many notable successes, it has won an assured and commanding pomtion. During the coming year The Century will niaintain its exceptiónal position asa magazine of entertainment and as a leader in art and thought. lts pictorial features will be notable, and it will command the services of the foremost. artists, illustrators, and engravers of tliis country and of Kurope. Nothing like a complete announcement of its literary features can be attempted now. Dr. WeirMitchéil, whose novel of the American Revolution, '■Uugh Wynne," is the great success of the year, has written a new story for the present volume. It bears the piquant titte: "The ad ventures of Fiancois : Foundiing, Adventurer, Juggler and Fencing-Master during the French Revolution." The tale a fiill of romaDce and adventure. Mrs. Burton Harrison contributes a new novel of New York life, called "Good Americana," in whicb contemporaneous social types and tendenties are brightly mirrored and described. There will be a group of clever stories about liorses and peopie wholilce liorses, under the general title of "Gallops." "A Woinan's Iieminiscence3 of the French Intervention in' Mexico" will be given in a series of graphic and liighly picturesque papers by Mrs. Cornelius Stevenson. Further "contributions to the interesting series of "Héroes of Peace" will be raade by Jacob A. Rus, Gustav Kobbe, EJizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward, and others. For the benefit of the readers of The Century an unusual combination offer is made for tliis year. There lias been issued "The Century Gallery of Oue Huudred Potraits," made up of tlie finest engravings that liave appeared in the magazine, and representing a total expenditnre of nearly .f30,000. These are pnnted on lieavy plate-paper, vith wide margina, üke proofs. The retail price of the gallery is $7.50, but this year it will be sold only in connection with a subscription to The Century, the price of the two together being $6.50.
