The time is drawing near for the animal meeting of the Mount Vernon council, which will be held on the 19th of May, in the banquet hall of " The Mansion" at Mount Veraon. The counoil, which is the legidative boby of the association, consista ot the Regent, Mrs. Lily L. Mc Alister Laughton, the viee recente of the several States represented ; the treasurer, Mr. E. Francia Riggs, Washington, D. O.; and the secretary, Mrs. J. M. Sweet, Mame. In view of the near approaoh of the meeting of the council, when the report of the vice regents of the different states will be presentad, the vice regent for Michigan makes an appeal to the oitizens of the state to contribute generously to the Endowment Fund. This fund ig mach needed for the restoration and proper maintenance of Mount Vernon. In the milist of a material progress, which is daz zling and amazing, with cities all over the country whose buildings are wonders of stone, marble, iron and brass-work, does not tbe simple but beautiiul home of car loved Washington, lying in peace and security on the Potomac, make a mute appeal to the hearts of all citizens, and move them to give of their little or abundance to the keeping of this sacred spot ? There is much to be done to make Mount Vernon what it was when under the loving care of' the master, and should not a grateful people gladly do what is needed for its periect restorauon? If our merchant princes live in palaces and enjoy club houses, which vie ia luxury with the old Roman Potters, should the garden walls at Mount Vernon tumble into decay, and the dear park remain a waste ? And will not the people of simple means be glad to th;uk th'at the, too, oan give of their little to keep this beautiful old colonial home from generation to generation ? Ccntributions for the Mount Vernon fund can be sent through Mrs. Don M. Dickinson, Detroit; Mrs. Bliza Smith, Lansing; Mrs. C. J. Willett, St. Louis; Miss Lizzie Cooley, Jackson; Miss Lois AngelĂ, Ann Arbor ; Mrs. Frank Keiler, East Saginaw; Mrs. Cbatterton, Mt. Pleasant; and Mrs. Dr. Charles Hazeltine, Grand Rapids. It is the earnest hope of the vice regent for Michigan, that tbe subscriptione, though individually small, will aggregate a generous sum which she will take pride in presenting at the annual meeting.
