Dr. Steele's Resignation

A meeting of the Presbyterian congregation was held on Thursday evenir g laaf, in answer to the citation of the Presbytery, to consider Dr. Steele's application for a dissolution of the pastoral relatior. The meeting was rot large, as it was understood that the pastor would insist on his resignation. On the motion that the congregation accede to the pastor's request, the vote taken by ballot resulted 14 in the affirmative and 27 in the negative. At a meeting of the Presbytery, yesterday, in Detroit, Professor Prescott, as commissioner, stated the result of the meeting. Dr. Steele adhered tu his determination and pressed the matter of his resignation. After a full discussion, and, on the grourd of his convictions to which he had carefully arrived, the Presbytery reluctantly yie!ded to Dr. Steele's request, and the pastoral relation was dissolved, to take effect on Jnly lst.
