Padccah, Ky., July 8.- In 1873, while Hamp Swilt was sheriff of Callaway County, Ky., his accounts were 13,000 short. He thought a deputy had robbed him. Making good the deüciency bankrupted him, and he has since supported his family as a day laborer. Recently his wife was sent to the insane asylura, and in her ravings told of money hidden in a smoke-house. Investigation revealed $3,200 in greenbacks. lt is thought that she concealed the money in one of her attacks. The discovery not only set the exsheriff on his feet, but clearad his reputation of suspicion.
