A Frightful Explosion
Strevtor, 111., July 23.- The destrurtion of property caused by the explosión of the Chicago, Wilmington & Vermilion Company's powder magazine Thursday morniug was not ia the least exaggerated in the dispatches. Forty-eight dwellings are demolished and as many more darnaged f rom f100 to $300 each. With flve exceptions every plate-gluss front ia the business part of the city, which is three-quarters of a mile from the scène of the explosión, was destroyed. The number of seriously injured people is eleven. About flfty were slightly hurt. Great crowds of strangers viewed the ruins yesterday. Congressman Plumb presided over a relief msetlng yesterday and headed a subscription list with f230. Meals were served to about 200 persons in the Methodist church.
