An Awful Story
Nogales, A. T., Aug. 9. - The sloop Sara, eightoen tohs register, ovvnad and commandcd by Abraham Bakaram,left Mulejo on the morning of July 25 loaded with tan bark, and having on board the captain, his wife, her children and nieces, Mr. Halle, superintendent of the Baltiraore copper raines at Santa Koslia, and a crew oí uva men. Between San Pelro ana Martínez, in the gulf oí California, tb.3 vessel was struck by a heavy surf and capsizeJ. All on board perisned excepting the captain and four suijors, who saved themselves by climbing on tha bottom of the capsized vessel. On the sècond day after the accident the dead bodies of the captain's wife and children rose to the surface and were eaten by sharks while the husband and father looked oh the awful sight in horror. On July 30 two of the sailors became crazy and said they were gjDing ashore, and immediataly plunged ovarboard. They no sooner struck water than the sharks devoured them. The captain, one sailor and a small boy remained on the bottom of the vessel for eight days, sustaining lite by caí hing turtles that would come near them and sucking their blood. They were roscued in a most pitiable condition by the fishing sloop Refugio, and afterward transferred to the company's stearaer Kerrigaa which was sent in search of the Sara and arrived at Guaymas Sunday night The captain of the Sara is mentally and physically a wreek. Captain Bakaram says there was another small sloop near his vessel in tho same gale. lt is supposed that she went down with all on board.
