Washington, Aug. 16.- The Secretary of the Navy has awarded the contracts f or conBtructing the five new naval vessele as folio ws: Cruiser No. 1, the Newark, to Cramp & Sons, $1,248,000; cruiser No. 4, the same parties, $1,350,000; cruiser No. 5, to the Union Iron Works, of San Francisco, $1, 428,000; ané gim-boats Nos. 3 and 4 to N. F. Palmer, Jr. & Co., of New York, at $490 - OOOeach. '
