New Yobk, Aug. 20.- The steamship City of Montreal, of the Inman Hne, which ailedfrcm this city for Liverpool August 6, was biirned at sea five days later. The passenge ra, numbering 420, and the crew left the burning vessel in lif e-boats, one of which, containing thirteen persons, has not been heard from and was doubtless lost The occupants of the other boats were picked up by the Bteamship York City, and taken to Queenstown, where they landed yesterday. The offlcers and crew of the City of Montreal behaved handsomely, and to their heroism and coolness â– the survivors probably owe their livea The burned steamehip was valued at $500,000, and carried a very heavy cargo.
