Over twelve hundred children less than sixteen years old are employed in the Harmony Cotton Mills at Cohoes alone. There is a corresponding amount of illiteracy. Fully one-third of the affldavits made by parents were signed with a cross, and their children have no opportunity to acquire an educaídon.
