John Tate, residing in the south-west corner of Fittsfield, this season sheared 170 grade sheep, mostly ewes, that averaged eleven and a half pounds to the fleece. Twenty-six ewe lambs averaged 10J lbs.; twelve yearling bucks averaged 13J lbs. The unwashed wool was gold at 19 cents straight. This seems to be better than raising wheat such years as this has been.
