A.n ola salt recently visited the editor of a Martha'9 Vineyard paper and poured in10 the latter'a wüling ear the following tale of the sea: "1 was in the good ship Surpri3e Crossing the western ocean. A spanking breeze was drivingthe sbip home at a most lively rate, every thing drawing aiow and aloft, when the painful ory: 'Man overboard I' startled theentire ship's company. Tha captain oame on deck, and ioolcing over the Caftrail at tha rapidly reeeding object and then observing the good speed the ship was making, said in a pious roice: 'Poor fellowl God help him; I'm lorry tor nim, but we must take advantage of this breeze tn the interest of tha owners.' ui then a aailor who had been on the lookout raa aH and said: 'Captain, it was ooi ■ man; but it' e nog.' 'Ahal' said the captain, 'hard a-port, back the mainyard, clear away the boat and save that hoz.' "
