Earthquakes And Plagues

New Yobk, Sept 5.Advices f rom Valparaíso, dated July 23, say: "A severe earthquake shock was experlenced here on Thureday at four a. m., and It was followed by slighter shocks at intervals. Another shock occurred Friday ataboutfour p. m., and two shocke were experienced Satnrday morning. The heavy Bhock of Thursday was feit from Los Andes to Talca, and with considerable severity in Santiago. It is probable that the shock affected o. still larger area than that between the places mentloned. Cholera bas been raging in Angel. On July 30 there was thirty cases in the lazarretto at Concepción and aljout lifty in private houses. Keports from the rural districts are vague and unreliable. The epidemie has been much more disaetrous than it has been reported. It is now sweeping northward.
