Milan'a race track is nealy completed. Work on the council building in Manchester is progressing slowly. Frank Halfley and family, of Whitmore Lake, have moved to Jackson. Milán milis and faetones are all running on full time, exceptthe dry-house. C. H. Miller, from Whitmore Lake, has opened a new livery and feed stable in the Warner house barn, Saline. : The stock holders of the Manchester base-ball ground contémplate flooding it with water this winter and making a grand skating rink of it. The school board of trustees of Saline held a meeting Friday night, and reelected the old offlcers: Moderator, H. W. Bassett; director, G. B. Mason ; treasurer, J. Sturm. Manchester Enterprise : The attempt to get an artesian well at the corner of Jefferson and Water-sts has not been abandoned, and water can be secured by priming the pump. They are getting ready to go deeper, and we wish them success. The following is a list of teachers gaged to teach the winter schools in Freedom : In district No. 1, B. V. Sage; No. 2, Charles Thompson ; No. 3, Mr. Schlicht; No. 4, Mr. Horning; No. 5, L. E. Guiñan ; No. 6, Fred Feldkamp ; No. 8, T. S. Flinn ; No. 9, Alice Guiñan. R. C. Auld exhibited some of hia Polled-Angus cattle at the Tri-State Fair at Toledo, week before last, and received the following premiums: lst on buil, $15 ; first and second on cows, $20 and $10 ; first on two-years-old heifers, $15 ; and first on yearlings, $10. John Heckle, of Lyndon, residing on the James Gorman farm, died very suddenly Saturday night the 18th. He retired at the usual hour in good health. In the night his wife heard him making an unusual noise, and before a lamp could be lighted ne died. rnysicians pronounced the cause the rupturing of a blood-vessel. Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Synod of Michigan will hold its 14th annual meeting in the Presbyterian church, in Ypsilanti, commencingTuesday, Oct. 4th, at 7:30 p. m., and continue through the next day and evening. The Women's Synodical Home Missionary Society will hold its annual meeting on the foílowing day, Oct. 6th, at the same place. Judging from the following from the Manchester Enterprise, game around that place is suffering today : A grand hunt will take place on Thursday, the 29th. Anyone wishing to join can do so by handing their name to either Stodard or Sherwood, providing so meone can be found to hunt on the opposite side against them. About 80 names have been handed in, but it is supposed that many who wished to go will be obliged to stay at home for various reasons. A crv of fire startled the Milan habitants last Monday morning. The fire caught from a gasoline stove at the residence of L. Wilcox, and the kitchen was completely destroyed, but by prompt assistance the rest of the house was saved. Mrs. Wilcjx, who was sick in bed and had been for several weeks, jumped from her bed and ran ont on the front porch, where she fainted and was carried across the road to a friend's house, where she soon found sleep under the influence of narcotics. Milan Leader : At the meeting of the Presbyterian church society last Saturday afternoon it was not thought advisable to extend a cali for a pastor until a larger amount of pledges for salary were secured. Sunday, after Sunday-school, another meeting was convened, and a suffi cient sum having been secured to warrant the cali, a unanimous vote was given to cali Rey. J. W. McGregor, of Clarkston, to this field, and it may be possible that he will occupy the pulpit here next Sunday, to be followed later by his family, which consists of wife and three daughters. The Washtenaw county convention of the W. C. T. U. will be held at Dexter, Oct. 4 and 5, 1887. Following is the programme : Fibst Session- Two o'clock p. m., Oct. 4. Devotional Exercises. Appointing Committees. Evening Session- Address of Welcome by Mrs. Prof. Walker. Response by Mrs. Comstock. Music. President's Address. A paper by Mrs. Shier. Octobkr 5th- Morning Meeting. Reports of Committees and Delegates. Opening the Question Drawer. Aftebnoon Meeting- Election of Officers. Closing Business. Evening- Address by Rev. Anna Shaw. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 4 and 5, dinner and supper will be served, and all good temperance people are solicited to furnish chicken-pie and everything else good. Further notice will be given hereafter.
