Indianapolis, Ind., Sept, 27.- It has developed that the Record Department of the State Building has been systematically robbed of books and documents for some time, the on!y clue to the thieves being that the gang consiste of three negroes and a white man. The Record Department contained a large number of the Supreme Court's roports, eome of which are out of print and very valuable, reports of State officers, copies of the Revised Statutes and other publicacions equally valuable. Hundreds of these books have been taken out, the backs torn off and then eold to a junk dealer named Smith, -who in turn so'dTthem to the Indiana Paper Company as old paper. With the exception that the backs are off, the books are perfect Sunday three large boxes of these books were traced to the office of the Indiana Paper Company, having been sold by Smith at 114c per pound. The State omcers will make a rigid inquiry into the matter.
