Died To Save Another
Jolbet, DL, Sept. 27.- Abraham C. Hartley, aged about 34 years, lost his life Sunday at his farm near here while saving the life of anothr. A well was being sunk on his place. Charles Kaehlert, who was doing the digging, descended the well, but almost itnmediate y he began groaning and calling for help. Mr. Hartley at once lowered himsdf and found Kaehlert insensible. Hartley t'ed a rope around the man, and he was drawn to the surface by some of the neighbors present. The rope was then lowered to Hartley, and when called to he made no replj'. No one dared venture into the well, but after considerable labor a noose at the end of the rope was secured around the body and he was drawn to the surface, dead. He leaves a wif e and three ehildren. Kaehlert was revived and will Uve.
