Forest Fires

Ottawa, Ont, Oct 1.- Tito city is encircled by a girdle of forest fires. Along the railroads south and east there has been graat destruction of propeity, while westwaid along the Ottawa r.ver and northward in the mining región extensive confiagrations are raging. The whole country, from Pembroke in Western Ontario to Qiiebec, a range of nearly 400 miles, is enveloped in Btnoke so dense that tratiic and navigation are obstructed, The losses, not only of timber, but of the farms, are already enormous, and will probably reach $500,000.
