I met the wife of a western congressman In the Corcoran gallery here the otber day. â– While she does uot by auy means represent a type of Washington nomen, she yet combines EO raany traits tUat are found among theai that she is in a certain sense representative. She seems to bo in a sort of transition state in every carticular, not only as to mental cbaracteristics, but even in her attire aud mauner. She had a bonnet that reached the furthest extreme of fashion, a pair of thick soled and iwkward boots that could only have been made by a back country cobbler, and her attire was an indescribably odd collection of various styles ana fasbions. lmmediately beneath tbe new fashioued bonnet she had an old fashioned bang. Her eyes were bright, her color perfect, and she talked with an enjoyment of one uuder a perpetual peil of exiitement In summing up her attire I should place it somenhat a follows: Shoes, KokuU; bonnet, Paris; cloth jacket, London; Rown, Washington; massive gold chain, Chicago; parasol, New York ; girdle, Vienna; accent, London, Iovva, taris, Illinois, New York, New England, Germany, South Carolina and Ireland. Tlsat these warring elemente will ghortly involvo a dasbing and representative American is the result to be looked for. -
