A prominent physician in Lapeer, Dr. H. McColl, has made a thorough report, with a diagram and explanation, oí a severe outbreak of typhoid fever which recently occurred in his practice. The report is too long to give here, but it seems to demónstrate conclusively that the outbreak was due to a fírst case. This case carne to Lapeer already sick with what was called " malarial fever." His discharges were not disinfected and were thrown into the vault at the back of the house near the well. A rain carne on which soaked the.sandy soil. Very soon three members of his Family carne down with a severe form of typhoid fever, and people in the half dozen houses near them were also taken sick. It is probably true what sanitarïans teach that typhoid fever never occurs unies people in some way get the geruis of typhoid fever from previous cases. Accepting this, it clearly becomes the duty of every health officer o see that the law in such cases is enforced. Discharge from typhoid fever patiënte should invariably be disinfected and buried away from all sources of water-supply. And this case illusrates the necessity of using such precautions even in doubtful cases. Let doctors dispute as much as they please about the differences between typhomalarial fever and typhoid fever ; but here is one plain course to pursue, and that is to prevent any possibility of the disease spreading no matter which it is. Typhoid fever kills more than a thousand people in Michigan each year. Health authoritiesshould do all in their jower to stop this. The Demócrata swept New York in Cuesday's election ; the Republicana made gaine in Massachusetts where the Demócrata hoped to win, and the honors are about easy in the other contests. The effect of the New York election will be to brighten Cleveland's chances of aecuring the democratie nomination for president next year, The city elecion resulted in putting a man of questionable character in the office of district attorney in place of the man who prosecuted the boodlers. This may be a good thing according to the Standard of New York politica ; butunprejudiced citizens will want more than ever a reform in the election laws to do away with the abuses which make such things sossible. Henry George's etrength in ,he city is shown to be at least 35,000, a powerful working forcé. The National Grange will next week Wednesday begin a week's session in Lansing. It is an important gathering, one usually seen in larger cities. Michi;an has the honor partly because she is the banner grange state, and partly because our granger governor worked for it. The meeting willoccur in Representative hall in the capítol. The governor will give the address of welcome. Hon. E. P. Allen of Ypsilanti is among the speakers, and his subject is " Michigan's Best Crop."
