"Yes, mam, he is on the ninth floor," said the elevator man. "Goodness graciousl" ejaculated the old lady, " what a sight of going up-stairs it will take to get where he is at." ' ' Step right in hero ; I will take you up, ' ' remarked the elevator man. "Hev you got a sort of wagon there a body can ridc up ini " asked the old lady. "lama little hefty. I weigh nigh onto two huudred pounds. Hold on to that tnar rope," she exclaimed, as the elevator started up. "Ninth floorl " calledthe elevator man, as he drew open the door. " Well, I declar to goodness," said the old lady, as she stepped out. "I have lived down at Red Fork nigh unto flfty ycars, and ril be switched if this hain't the first time I ever come up-stairs through the snioke-stack."
