New York, Dea 30.- Charles F. Hayward, of this city, owner of the Babcook flre extinguisher patent, eays that the man who just díed in a California almshouse was not the inventor of the extinguisher or any relation to him. Charles F. Babcock, a Boston chemist, he says, invented the Babcock extinguisher in 1867, and is still alive and supposed to be a rich man. The California impostor gained a similar notoriety when he entered the California almshouse.
