To the Editor of The Register : gm; - On Wednesday evening. Jan. 4, R. P. Carpenter Post, No. 41, G. A. R, furnished the citizens of Chelsea and vioinitv a very ecjoyable and successful entertainment, by which they not only afforded a great deal of pleasure to the large audience that 'erreeted them, but aequitted themselves with credit, and added to the credit eide of iheir bank account the sum of $50. The attractive features of the evening were, excellent music - both by the Chelsea carnet band and our quartette of male voices; the interesting evolutions connected with the Post's impressive ceremony of installation ; brief.but interesting and well reeeived reraarks by the chaplain, Rev. H. Palmer, of Lima ; an able and patriotic address by J. Q. A. Sessions, of Ann Arbor; amuing reniinisoences of the war by T. R. William", of Jackson ; eeveral letters from invited guests, regretting inability to attend, among them that thoroughly pathetic, patriotic and goul-stirriag communication of Hon. A. J. Sawyer, of Ann Arbor, one of Chelsea's owrn honored sons, that was published in The Registkr I last week; and, "last hut not least," a banquet in the preparatiou and serving of which the already celebrated Ohelsea-andvicinity ladies fairly outdid themselves. The whole occasion was one whose pleasing incidente will not soon fade Irom the memory ol any one whose good fortune it was to be present. The followirig officera were installed for the current year: C.mmander, E. L. Negus ; senior vice commander, A. Steger junior vice ccmmander, A. W. Chaproan ehaplain, H. Palmer; offioer of the day, John Waltrous ; surgeon, W. Canfield ; quartermaster, (ieo. J. Crowell; adjutant, U. H. Hinkley ; quartermaster sergeant major, M. Campbell ; quarttrmaster sergeant, Wm. Yocum; oöicer of guard, II. P. Gilbert We hope your reader?, who read The Register's report of this event last week, from which ie appeared that John R. Clark was the only speaker present, will please note that John R. Clark was not present at all.
