The Common Council
At the common couucil meeting Monday evening, City Treasurer Moore reported $50,000 taxes collected. City Marshal Sipley reported the expenditures for the poor in January amounting to $336.62. Bills to the amountof $1,539.67 were allowed. City Attorney Joslyn filed an opiniĆ³n that a session of the board of registration wag unnecessary for the eomiog local option election. Postmaster Duffy requested that the boy nuisance at the postoffice be stopped. The council didn't like the idea of interfering in Uncle Sam's domain like that, but the city marshal will swoop down on the boys once in a while. The city attorney produced authority to the effect that the po9tmaster could close the postoffice if the local authorities failed to keep order. The city attorney was requested to draft such amendments to the market ordinance as would include State-st; it was done on request of J. P. Judson, J. H. Warner, and other State-st merchante. On the request of E. AI. Southard, the marshal was instructed not to enforce the closing of rooms on Sunday. The gum of $180.17 was appropriated to pay the balance on lot 5, block 5, in line of Churchst between Orleans and Hil!-st.
