The benefit hop of Company A was heralded through the streets yesterday afternoon, in masquerading character, and at a comparatively early hour in the evening a large number of the maskers gathered at the Franklin house, where they assumed tbeir mask.=. At nine o'olock a motley processiou formed in front of the hotel and marched through Q-ibson's photographic rooms into the rink by a rear entrance. All available seatingspace outside of that partion of the floor reserved for dancing was already occupied by the company 's interested frienda and spectators. The elephant and the giraffe wbich had preriously paraded the streets, were confined in one corner of the room behind a canvas partition. At the first inspiriting straics of the Ann Arbor city band, from the balcony, these classic animáis in response to the cali, "when the band begins to play," emerged and led the grand maren. As the nmsic changed, the marching columns of grote?que and beautiful costumes broke into the kaleidoscopic effects of the dance, which was kept up without intermission until eleven o'clock, when masks were removed, and the disguised revellers resumed trieir own personality. A few, and among them some of the most striking and artistic costumes, skipped quietly away at this time, but the majonty remained to continue the merry dance. About 500 maskers were in attendance, and the entertainment netted the company over $200.
