The most honored of sll the delegations to the republican convention and bacque at Detroit, Wednesday, was the delega tion from the university. Again anc again ihey reeeived the highest complimen'a of the. convention, and the boys certainly did honor to the republican party and to the university. Even in the oratorical contests of the day and evening, participated ia by distinguished statesmen from all pnrts of the Union, the university delegation went clear up to the front, as may be seen by the Detroit city papers. The Tribune says: "The talented orator, James Chaimerp, of Kent county. fied the taague convention by a stirring speech jut before adjournment yesterday. It was f ui of eloquent republican ideas most elequently expounded." Mr. Chalmers is a lit. '89, and waa called out by Wip. Atden Smith, of Grand Rapids. He maintained the position that the more the party becaaie the Champion of moraliiy nd reform, the more entbusiastic will be the support of, the republican standard by the young men of the land. C. A. Read, '88, was elteted assistant aeoretarv oí the convention, and H. B. Dewev, '90, was choseo as oúe of the vicé presidenta of the state league. D. K. Cochrane was made :hairman of the university delegation. - The CnroninlH. The auditor general of the state has sent word to the county treasurers that those counties which vote agninst the manufncure and sale of intoxicating liquors will not need 1 quor blanks. He cao send them to Washtenaw county ju-t the same. Our county treasurer will need them.
