At the common council meetiDg, Mocday evening, the followin were present: Mayor Smith, Recorder Pond, Aldermen Allmendinger, Herz, Martin, Neithammer, Kearns, Swift, Ware, Hammond, Sutherland, and Wine. A petition a9king that Church-st be extended south to the south line of Smith's second addition, wassigned by Wm. Biggp, Alexander Orr, Otis C. Johnson, Hudson T. Morton, Eüza Smith, Sarah F. Vaughn, Chaa C. Church, and others. Rfcferred to street committee. WANTS DAMAOES. A bilí of $500 was received from Chas. R. Whitman, attorney for the claimant, Moses (x. Neithammer, for dam ejes resiilting from injuries received Deo. 31, 1887, from detective walk on the north side of Liberty-s-t, in front of the Chase property on the northeast corner of Liberty and Jewett-st. Referred to general fund committee and the city attorney. CHURCn STREET AGAIN. The following commiinication was read . Mayok's Office, Ann Arbor, MIch., March 3, 1888. To the Common Council : Since our last meeting I hare recived $95 cash on the extensión of Chureh-st, which I have deposited with the city treasurer; also notes to the amount of $65. It is with the understanding that in case the city thall fail to open said church-st throngh lot 3 and block 1 of R. S. Smith's addition to the city, then the city shall refund the said amount and notes to the donors. There is one olher note of $15 that has not been delivered to me, but is to be added to the above amount. Vtry respectfully, W.B. Smith, Mayor. The following resolution was adopted : Resolved, That the Recorder is hereby requerted to post the necessary notices to open Church-st through lot 5. block 1, R. 8. Smith's second additiod to the city of Ann Arbor. FINANCE COMMITTEK'S REPORT. Thi= committee reported bilis to the amount of $1608.93, and they were ordered paid. AMENDMEHT TO MARKET ORD1NANCE. City Attorney Joslyn presented an ordinance which was to amend section 8 of the market crdinance. It was adopted, and now reads as follows : " 8ec. 8. All persons selling or offering for sale from wagons, carts or other vehicles any fish meat. hay. straw or wood by retail within the limita of the space bounded on the south by William-st, on the west by Firet-st, on the east by the east line of Ingalls st, and on the north by Northst, shall occupy and stand with their team or teams on the spaee of ground by thls ordinance conrtituted and known as the city market." The city recorder's report was ordered printed as usual when completed. BILL FOR NDR'ING. A bilí of $25. of Mrs. E. T. Hollister, for nursing the Kusterer family in a seige of typhoid fever, was allowed, and a communication conseming it from Dr. W. F. Breakey, the city health officer, was read as followg: To the Common Council: "Some weeks ago, in consultation with Dr. Morton, I visited a Mr. Kusterer, on 4th-st. He was very ill wilh typhoid fever. Since that time I have underetood that several other membere of the family have been sick with the same disease. " The diseaie was believed communicable, and neighbors were afraid to assist )n nursing or watching, and there was danger that the family woulii suffer for lack of care. The law makes it the duty of the health officer ' to see tbat no person MifterK forlaek of nurses, or other uecessarles becai se of isolation for the public good.' " In tli is case the isolation was as thorough and effectual asjf ordered, and in all probability the public (ood subserved by lesseuing the riskB of exposure ; and while the nurse was not employed by ihe henlth omcer, yet assistauce was given in procuring one, and the assurunce glven thdt all necPKsary and practical aid would be rendered " From all ihe Information 1 have of the situation, it seeme a proter case for the city to aid ; and I respectfully recommend such aid ifitcan be consistently granted. The city marshal repotted expenditures for the poor during the monthot February a followB : lst ward, $27 95; 2nd ward $18 71; 3d ward, $42 04; 4th ward, $121.50; 5th ward, $91.51; 6th ward, $14. THE SPRING ELECTION. The council provided for registration Wednesday, March 28, at same places used for the local option regntration and electiun.
