At a meeting of the faculty of the department of Medicine and Surgery, held March 6, the f.iUowing minute was made in regard to the death of Professor Cheever : " The Faculty of the De partment of Medicine and Surgery learn wlth sorrow of the sudden death of Dr. Byron W. Cheever, Professor of Metallurgy in the University. Btricken from active college Ufe, in the full tide of absorbing engagements. and falling aftera few daysstruggle with the shock of disesse, his loss is one of the most iiflliru iiK to his frienda. A gradúate in medicine in this University in the year 1867, and since then engaged in pursuite of technical science, he has been loyal in all that does honor to this department. ' In the strength and steadinese of his industry, in the accuracy and faithfulness of his investigatlons, and in the worth of his honorable ex ampie, the record of his life doescreöitto the University. His name is one honored in this Faculty, a name whieh was clearly written some years ago in the records of the best services of the mediaal profession, by another member of the family now again bereaved. And it only remains for us here to render honor to thememory of toe departed, to extend our most feit sympathyto the afflicted family. and to bow in humble submission to God who iveth and who taketh away."
