Samuel P. Jewett
Samuel P. Jewett died at his residence on Huron-st, Saturday at 6 p. m. He had been failing n health for three years, duringa large part of which he has been confined to his house. Mr. Jewett carne to Ann Arrjor soon after 1837, and remained in the mercantile business till 1853, in which he was very suocessful. Por some years he macaged the business of hia brother in Chicago, that of the firm of Sherman S. Jewett & Co. He has ranked among the most prominent, active, and liberal of our citizens, and was extremely will liked. In 1840 he erected the commodious residence in which he lived till his death. In 1873 he was forced, by ill healtb, to give up active labor. He was bom in Middlesex county, Conn., in 1809, and received an academie education in Cayuga academy, in New York, where he graduated in 1826. He leaves four daughters, Mrs. Paul, of Montreal, Canada, Mrs. E. D. Kinne and Mr?. Hyde, of Ann Arbor, and Airs. Dr. llamilton Smith, of Detroit. His wife died about three years ago. The funeral oceured yesterday afternoon from the residence, and many marks of respect were give o as befitted the turial of such a man.
