Chicago, March 24.- The BwUcnuws alón? the line of the Burlington system quit work last night in order to help the engineers and flremen of that line. Chicago, March 26.- Not a wheel oi k freight car turned in the Chicago, Burlington A Quincy yards Saturday or yesterday. For the aeoond time within a month the freight business of thls road is temporarily paralyzed, this time by the action of the switchmen. Chicago, March 27.- The limit givenby the Burlington Company- 10 o'clook p. m., Monday- in which thelr old switchmen might return to their work, passed and not a man presentad himself for employment The company began at once to hire new men. Seven new Bwitchmen, Beven freight conductors and a number of the road's officials succeeded in sending out three freight trains. Chicago, March 28. - The Burlington Railway Company is rapidly rilling the places vacated by the striking switchmen, and the directors of the oompany declare that it is their determination, regardless of consequencea, to firmly resisc any attempt to take the management of the road trom the hands of its ownera A gang of twenty switchmen was put to work late yesterday afternoon in the "Q" yards at Western avenue. They said they were f rom Beadlng, Pa., and were a portion of a crowd of sixty more. that arrived Monday night from the East They said the entire Darty had been hired by the " Q" company, and that they were distributed between Chicago and Aurora yesterday. The striking switchmen, Jt is charged, thxew stones at a train which arrived Monday evening, and it was feared that they would resort to stül further violeace. The Chicago, Burlington 4 Quincy Bailroad Company has called upon the pólice for protection, as trouble with the striking ■witchmen was antlcipated.
