Of the 154 deaths during the year, reported by the undertakers, 16 were from diphtheria. That is too large a number for Ann Arbor to have. XJnder the present state of sanitary knowledge, Ann Arbor ought to have a health service which would make such a showing impossible. Of course, diphtheria is apt to be imported at any(time and some child die with it before any measures can be taken ; but any such outbreak should be statnped out inimeiiately and further spread from that gource be made impossible.
