Galena, I1L, April 25.- Hon. Absalom A. Townsend, one of the oldest and bestknown residente of the Galena and Wisconsin lead mines, died Menday night at his home in Báullsburir, in the latter State, aged 78 years. He was for many years prominent in the politics oí Wisconsin, and represented his district ior sjveral ternis, before and during the war, in the State Senate, He was a native of New York, and removed to this county with his parents in 18'J7. He subsequently crossed the line into Wisconsin and locited at Shullsburg, where he had resided for more than flfty years. He has been promineinly identlfled diiring all his lile with the mining and agricultural interests of his State.
