New York, May 3.- The addrcss of the iethodist Bishops, read at the general conerence in this city yesterday, showed that n f our years 450,000 souls had been brought nto the church and the membership in creased irom 1,769,534 to 2,093,935. The ïishops are opposed to high license and in avor of total prohibition of the liquor rafflc. Women were declared to be ineligi)le as delegates in the conference. New York, May 4,- a debate on the subect of the admission of women as delegates ook place yesterday at the Methodist general conference in this city. A powerful appeal in behalf of the ladies was made by lev. J. H. Potts, editor of the Michigan Advocate, who drew attention to the fact that more than two-thirds of the members of the church vvere women, without whom oneïalf of the churches would cease to exist. Othcr speeches of similar tenor were made ; also addresses against admitting women delegates. New York, May 5.- The entire session of the Methodist conference was taken up yesterday by debate on the report excluding women delegates. New York, May 7.- The Methodist general conference adjourned Saturday until to-day without having reached a vote on the vexed question of admitting women delegates. A resolution referring the matter to a vote of the local conferences was voted down. New York, May 8.- The Methodist general conference yesterday decided not to admit women as delegates by a vote of 249 to 173. __
