PÉNATE. Washington'. July ti - In the Scnate yesterday the conference ronort on the Agricultural Appropriation bill was concurred in. A bill to make the manufacture, preparation or sale of adulterated articles of food, drink or medicine a misdemeanor puaishable b.v fine and imprisonment was introduced. Messaees were received from the President vetoing three private pension bilis. Adjourncd to the 9fh. Washington, Ju!y 10. - In the Senate yesterday the bill o amend the Inter-State Commerce aot was passed, and a motion to refer to the Committee on Pensions severa] vetoed pension bilis was adopted. The propoeition to submit to the people of the several States a constitutional amendment to prohibit the liquor traffic in the United States was favorably reported from the Committee on Educaiion. Washington, July 11. -Senator Hoar (Mass.) addressed the Senate yesterday in opposition to the fisheries treaty, saying that there was not a single flshermati who did not deem its provisions an outrage, and said the rejection of the treaty was in the interest of a true and lasting peace. Senator Sherman (O.) offered a resolution, which was adoptd, directing the Finanoe Committee to report in connection with revenue bilis such measures as it may deem expedient to control or prohibit all contracts, trusts or combinations that tend to prevent competition in trade was adopted. a bill was introduced to amend the act to punish postal crimes. THI HOOSE. Washington, July 6.- In the House yesterday bilis were reported to authorize the appointment of an Assistant Secretary of the Navy and to perfect the quarantine service of the United States. The Senate Land-Forfeiture bill was dlscussed. Washington, July 7.- In the House yesterday the Land-Grant Forfeiture bill was passed by a vote of 177 to 8. If it becomes a law it 'will forfeit 54,000,000 acres. The debate on the Tariff bill was resumed, and the only changos made were to restore the present duty on wood-screws, penknives and razors, and fixing the duty on new printing type at 15 per cent. ad valorem. Washington, July 9.- In the House Saturday the Senate bill providing for the sale of the site of Fort Omaha, Neb., and appropriating $200,000 for a new site and the construction of new buildings thereon was passed. The Tariff bill was further discussed, and the offering of an amendment placing sugar on the free list and proposing to pav a bounty for lts production provoked an animated debate, but no action was taken. Washington, Juiy 10.- In the House ysterday the amendment to the Tariff bill placing Eugar on the free list was rejeoted by a vote of 37 to IOS. Another amendment was offered, which was defeated, placing all sugar and molasses on the free list. Washington, July IL - In the House yesterday the debate on the Tariff bill was re sumed. At the evening session numerous bilis granting rights of way through Indian reservations to various railroads wers passed. OTHEB NOTES. Washington, July 6. - The Republican Senators, under the guidance of those who are on the Finance Commttte, are agreed upon a substitute for the Mills bill. lts features are the repeal of the tooacco tax and the tax on alcohol used in the arts, and reduction of the sugar tax. Washington, July 7. - The President has vetoed the bilis granting pensions to Nathaniel D. Chase, Harriet Cooper, William M. Campbell, Jr., and Julia Welsh, and the bill for the relief of Van Buren Brown. Washington, July 7.- At the General Land Office patents to agncultural lands were issued during the last fiscal year as follows: Cash entries, 29,692; homestead, 15,592; timber culture, 1,343; desert land, 30; scrip, 523; total, 47,180. There were also issued 1,034 patents to mineral lands, 114 to coal lands and 59 to private lands under grants. Washington, July 10.- During the last fiscal year the number of post-offlces es tablished in the United States was 3,364 ; number discontinued, 1,642; number of iourth-class postmasters appointed during the year, 11,852; number of Presidential postmasters appointed during tho year, 436. Total number of Presidential postofflees, 2,503, and increase during the year of 166. Washington, July 11.- Thus far this session over 3,300 bilis have been intrpduced in the Sonate. In the two scssions of the Forty-ninth Congress there were only 3,35S, and that was more than the Senate had ever produced in any previous Congress.
