Milwaukek, July :!.".- Charles A. Dana, editor of the New York Sun, addressed an immense audience at the New Aeademy last eveninj, onder tho anspices of tha "Wisconsin. Editorial Assoeiation. The veteran journalist was groeted wurmly. Dur ing his remarks he showed the power oí the press in. molding public sentiment, and spoke of the principies whieh underlie a great journal and the dutiesdevolvingupou it. Mr. liana said there were very few rules that could be used by newspaei men, but he would submit the following: "First- Get the news and get all the news, and nothing but the news "Second - Copy nothing from any one's publication without perfect credit. "Third - Never print va interview without the Itnowledge and consent of the party interviewed, [Laughter and applause.] " Fourth- Xever print a paid advertisement as news matter. [Laughter.l Let every advertisement appear as an advertisement- bo sailing under false colors [Applause.] '■ Fifth- Never attac-k the weak, the defenseless, either by argument, by invective or by ridicule, unless there i some absolute public necessity for so doinp. " Sixtb- Fight for your opinions, but don't believe they contnin the whole truth or the only truth. " Seventh- Support your party, if you have one [loud laughter and applausel, but don't think all the good men are in it and all the bad ones outslde of it. [Laughteri. "Eighth- Above all, know and believe tnat humanity is advancing and that there is progress in human life end human affairs, [applause], and that, as sure as God lives, the fut. ure will be greater than the present or the past." [Applause.]
