Prof. Henry S. Frieze has received a letter from Rosa E. Rogers, dated June 30 at Rome, Italy, ia which the very interesting fact appears that Ann Arbor can claim the credit of producing the first log cabin design in 1840 when old Tippecanoe ran for the presidency. Randolph Rogerg, the eminent Bculptor, was then a boy 15 years old, residing in Ann Arbor. The letter reads: '"Today in talking with Mr. Rogers about the nomination of Harrison and Morton for the presidency on the Republican ticket, and recalling President Harrison of Tippecanoe fame, and telling the children of log cabin days, etc., he laughed and said that it wag he who made the first engraving of the leg cabin with the stars and stripes floating above. He made it for an Ann Arbor paper, - tho name he can;;otrecall; but he drew it,and engraved it on wood and received ten dollars for t, and it was afterwards taken as tbe badge of that pirty and spread all over the country. He was fifteen at that time, that ie, if Harrison ran in 1840. I scarcely recollect, and he cannot teil me exactly. I thought you would like to know this little fact, end it would come in nicely with the noniination and the arrival of the cast."
