Death Of A Pioneer
Chicaoo. Oct. 17.- Hon. John Wentworth, ouo of Chicago's oldest and most conspicuous citizens, died yesterday morning. Mr. Wentworth - "Long John," as he was wont to be called, being siz feet six inches tall - was 73 years of age and had been a resident of Chicago f or fifty-two years. He was a representativo in Congress four terms, commencing in 1844, and was twice mayor of the city. At the time of tais death his wealth was estimated at $5,000,000, and he loaves a daughter to in herit it Mr. Wontworth was born in Sandwich, N. H., March 5, 1815. He was married November 13, 1844, at Troy, N. Y., to Roxanna Marie Loom is, whodied February 5, 1870. They had five children, all of whom died young. except one daughter, Koxanna Atwater Wentworth.
