Refused To Investigate

Yesterday, Mr. Gilbert, of the board of supervisors, tried to get an investigation into the increased expense of running the oounty house. The last annuual report shows that it has ooet 12 cents more per week for each pauper than during several previous years. As there are on an average 85 pauper?, thia makes over $500 increased expense in one year. It looks queer, because prices of provinions have been lower than ever before. There tnay be a good reason for it, but the board of supervisors voted down the reeolution promptly. An unwilliugness to have an ïDveetigBtion doesn't look well.
