Annual fall field day Saturday. Prof. Johnson has another assistant, a boy. Dr. Victor O. Vaughan attended the meeting of the State board of health in Lansing, Tuesday. Miss Alger ia " practicing " in the TJ. of M. library. She is to be librarían of the Tennessee Normal eohool. Dr. Herdman will give the senior medies an excursión to Pontiao soon to study the asylum for the insane. Dr. George Chaffee, '81, of Blue Hill, Neb., appointed to be Dr. Lyster's assistant, has located at 32 Jefferson-st. The inter-fraternity league of ball players finished last Saturday morniog, the Psi U's coming out ahead. Now there will be a " spread." The junior homoeopaths have elected H. E. Hoffman class-president; Miss E. A. Cunningham, vice-president; and Miss E. P. TenEyck, secretary and treasurer. Ginn & Co. will issue about Nov. 15 a book by Prof. B. C. Burt, .entitled, " A Brief History of Greek Philosophy." It is critical and interpretative, as well a9 historical. How's this? The Argonaut says that a homoespath doctor from Jackson submitted to Dr. Maclean's treatment in clinic hst Monday. And yet Dr. Maclean wants the clinic moved to Detroit ! Commencing today, a series of free organ recitals will be given in the Congregutional church, by the school of inusic. Each program will be representativo of a nationality. D., '86. At home, Boulder, Ooi. Miss Louise Jones, who made a great reputation as superintendent of the Charlotte schools, has entered the literary class, and will prohably gradúate this year. She is one of the best teachers in Michigan. Prof. Volney M. Spaldiog has an article in the October number of The Academy on " The scientiñe advancement of the age and its relation to education." Of it a great reader says: "It's the ablest paper I have read in a very long time." A recent acquisition in the library is a pamphlet by G. S. Fellows, which attempta to exposé the famous Loisette who took $2,000 from Ann Arbor. Loisette his gone under the names of Marcus Dwight Larrowe and Silas Holmes, and perhaps others. Mr. Fellows gives Loisette's memory system, aod claims to show that it is not original with him. The graat foot ball contest between the freshtnen and sophomore classes of the lit. department began last Saturday at 3 p. m., and by dark, after a struggle of more than two hours, the game was not fisished. It will be tried again in two weeks. The fresbmen outnumbered their opponents by 60, and made up in pure force what they lacked in skill. There is little or no chance for the exerciseof skill, however, insuch a wild tassle as takes plaee in a rush between classes, while it seems a miracle that bonea are not broken without number George Frothingham was referee, J. E. Duffy and W. D. Ball judges, Fred. Richmond captain for the sophomores and J. Van In wagen for the freshmen. The kickoff was gained by the freshmen, and Wisner did it well. The sophomore's experience enabled them to ruBh nearly to the freshmen goal in spite of the numbers of the freshmen. There was a furious struggle, resulting in many severe bruises. The freshmen forcf-d their opponents back by main streogth and won the first goal. They were nearly wild with delight, yelling "Roo I Rah ! Roo ! Ninety-two," till they were hoarse.
