Pittsbdrgh, Pa., Nov. 27.- Francis Murphy Sunday night, at the Bijou Theater, celebrated the twelfth anniversary of his debut on the temperance platform. The building was jammed full of humanity, and the gray-haired Champion of cold water had the liveliest kind of a welcome, He made but a short address on account of the cold with which hc was suffering. Joseph R. Hunter presided at the meeting. During the evening congratulatory letters and telegrams were read from Judga Noah Davis and Rev. T. De Witt Talmage, D. D., of New York, Canon Wilberforce and Rev. Mr. Springer, of England, and others. Sinca Mr. Murphy left England hisditinguishec corresponden ts say that his work has been f aithfully executed by the cf.nverts. and ín the last flve year9 696,000 signatures to pledges were obtained. Mr. Murphy had before personally obtained 700,000 making the sum total of 1,400,000 persons who attached themselves to his crusade It is claimed, too, that 85 per cent. of this great multitude remained faithful to their vows of absolute abstinence.
