ïsew Yohk, Dec 30 -Business failures during the last seven days numbor iorthe United btates 270, Canada 83, total 299 aa against 311 last week, and 363 for the orlesponding week of lastyear. M'ss Heleu Barry will appear n AnD Arbor, Jan. 10, in " A Woman's Stratagem." Of her t is said : Miss Barry has a fine stage presence, a sfrikingly bandsome face, and a figure tbat, while tall. is nevertheless graci'ful in every pose. She has won her position as the leadingeomedienne of the English stage by purely lifiitinate methods, if one is tojudge by her work of last eveninr. There was notbing strained, nothing foroed in her ctina-, whioh was true to nature throughout. Io her lighter scènes she is more pleasintr, becau.e more within her powerg, but she -hows a eareíul handling of the stronger fiemes, and in every one of them never loses her grosp of the part or her cantrol ofthesiiuation. She was heirtily applausdeci in several of her best pcenes; the applause being emphasizsd with floral offerings ac the end of the second act. Miss Barry is certainly to be classed amoug the h'r.-t interpretéis ol comedy who have appr-ared in Boston, iind by her ability to pass, apparently without effort, from the hghter to more serious partshe establishe s htr cliiim to stand amoug the great art:stoftbeday. Her acting is maiked by as artii-ti: conception and cnreful interpretation ot her roles, general feeling an.l expression being apparent in the slrooger scènes, while the lighter ones are con-espomlinsrly well treated."
