STATE SOLOS AT WORK. Springfield, 111., Jan. 12. - At a caucus of Republicans Thursday night in the Senate chamber Shelby M. Cullom was renominated to aucceed himself as Senator f rom Illinois. Indianapolis, Ind., Jan. 12.- ïfto Fiftysixth General Assembly of Indiana convened Thursday morning. The Denlo cratic caucus norainees for the vacant legislative offices were duly elected. The House st;inds: Demócrata, 57; Republicans, 43. Hon. Masón J. Niblack, of Knox County, son of ex-Judge Niblack of the Indiana Suprome Bench, was chosen Speaker. Hartford, Conn., Jan. 11. - Both houses of the Legislature met in joint session this forenoon to elect State offlcers, an eleotion by the people having failed. As a result of the balloting Messrs Bulkley, Merwin, Walsh, Henry and Wright (all Kepublicans) were doclared elected Governor, Lieutenant-Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Comptroller. Later in the day Governor Bulkley was inaugurated with imposing ceremonies. Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 12.- The Democrats of the Legislature .yesterday reiiominated Isham G. Harris for United States Senator. Columbüs, O , Jan. 12.- The Legislature tackled the telephone monopoly Thursday, and the House passed the Clark bilí, fixing the rental of 'phones at L3 per month, and $2 50permonth where more than one instrument is used. The telephone people say they will remove their instruments and close the exchanga here if the bilí is passed by the Senate. Chicago, Jan. 13.- A special to the Mail from Topeka, Kan., says ttiat P. B. Plumb, United Jitates Senator, received the caucus nomination for re-election Friday, and will orobably reoeive every vote cast in the Legislature. The Legislature adjourned till Tuesd.iy. Boston, Jan. 15. - The Rnpublicans and the Demo crats of the Btate Legislature Honday held caucuses to nomínate a United States Senator. The Republicana renominated Senator Hoarunanimously by acclaniatiou. Tiie Domocrat-s nominated General P. A. Collins. Jíasiivillk, Tenn., Jan. 1C- Isham O. Indianapolis, Ind., Jan. 15.- Alvin P. Hovey was inaugurated Governor of Indiana yesterday. In the B ven ing a public reception was given at the capítol by Governor Hovey, Lieutenant-Governor Chase and the newly-installeJ State officials and their wives, and was a brilliant event. General and Mrs. Harrison and a large number of prominent citizens of the State were present Evansville, Ind., Jan. 15, -The Republicans of the First Congressioual district yesterday nomiaated Colonel Frank B. Posey for the unexpired term occasioned by the resignation of Congressman Hovey to become Governor. Salem, Ore., Jan. 15.- Both branches of the Legislature organized yesterday. The House elected E. L Smith," of Hood River, as Si eaker. The Senate elected Joseph Simon, of Portland, as President. Jeffeksox City, Mo., Jan. 15.- Hon. D. R. Francis, of Bt. Luis, who was elected Governor in November, was formally inaugurated yesterday. Litti.e Rock, A:k., Jan. 15.- The Tweaty-seventh General Assembly of Arkansas met yesterday. Bostox, Jan. 1(1 - Senator Hoar has been re-elected to the United States Senate by the following vote: Senate, 32; House, 171. Hon. P. A. Collins, the Democratie candidate, received a complimentaiy vote of 6 in the Seuate and 56 in the House. Lincoln, Neb,, Jan. 16 -Charles F. Manderson (Rep.) was re-elected yesterday by the Nebraska Legislature to represent the State as United States Senator. Denvek, Col., Jan. 16.- The General Assembly in joint session yesterday elected E. O. Wolcott United States Senator to succeed Thomas M. Bowen. Augusta, Me., Jan. 16.- The Maine Legislature ye-iterday re-elected W. P. Frye as United States Senator. Laxsing, Mich., Jan. 16.- The Legislature yesterday elected James McMillan (Rep.), of Detroit, as United States Senator, to succeed Thomas W. Palmer. Dovek, Del., Jan. lö.- Anthony Higgins (Rep.) was yesterday elected Uni'tedStates Senator by the Legislature.
