Hon. A. J. Sawyer Has The Qualities
that eminently fit him forthe position of United States district attorney for the eastern división of Michigan, and his appointtnent would be generally satisfactory to a large constituency. Gov. Luce has appointed Hon. T. W. j Ferry of Grand Haven, and, Henry B. Ledyard of Detroit, as commissioners to represent 'Michigan at the Centennial 'celebration of Gen. .Washington's inaugnration at New York, April, ."(). The Regents in their memorial to the University, as-k for $219,289.08 for the years 18S9 and 1890. They show that the University of Michigan is conducted at less expense than other state universities, while it has more stndents and does more work. The anarchist of Chicago have won in their bout witta the pólice before the circuit court. The pólice forbade certain meetings of the anarchists, who applied for an injunction restraining the pólice from interfering. No injunction was granted, as the judge didn't deern it necessary ; bnt he expressed surprise at such arbitrary conduct on the part of the pólice officer. Meanwhile the anarchists are denouncing the clergymen of Chicago as the pampered servants of monopolist.
