Gyley read a paner last Thursday evening before the Pniloeophical society, on "Luerary cri'icism, analytic or synthetic." A large deleeation of the university branch of the Michigan club will attend the annual banquel of the club at Detroit on the 22nd. The university committee of the legislature did not come to inspect the university last week. They will be here Friday and Siturday. The second petilion of the glee club askinï leave cf absence for an extra week this spring, to make a concert tour, was granted by the faculty. The glee club will start on their annual concert trip on April 22nd, playing at jhicago on that evening. The balance of the trip has not been laid out. Dewey read an interesting paper on " Robert Elsmere.1' The discussion was on the question, " Resolved, hat the presidential term should be exended to six years and a re-election de)arred." President Holden, of the senior class of the literary department, entertained about fifty of the raembers of the class at the Pni Kappa Psi house last Friday evening. Pres. and Mrs. Angelí and Prof. nd Mrs. Morris were representatives of the faculty present. Secretary Wade received from Frank Lowden, of Henrietta, Friday, a curious freak of nature. It was a doublé headed calf. The two heads or faces are joined at the forehead, and two perfectly formed faces look in opposite directions. It has been stuffed tor the museum. Mr. Erwin F. Smith hoe been appointed by the commissioner of agricultura to continue his investigatioos of peach yellows in which he is to give special attention to the normal and pathological anatomy of the peach tissues, with a view to settle, if possible, the parasitic nature of the disease. The ladies of the university have a chance of obtaining literary fame and making a kandred dollars, the Cosmopolition, a New York monthly, offering them that snm for the best article of eight thousand words upon the University of Michigan. No anieles will be received except front the ladies. Pres. Northrop, of the University of Minnesota, a former gradúate of the U. of M., will deliver a lecture under the auspicies of the students' lecture association at university hall, tomorrow evening. He wa the representativo oL the University of Minnesota at the recent semi-centennial celebration of Michigan University, and delivered a congratulatory address. Profs. Demmon, Hinsdale and Gayley, the committee appointed to award the prizes for the best contributions to the Oracle, have rendered their decisión, the winners being as follows: H. B. Shoemaktr, story; E. H. Smith, humerous sketch; (J. P. Codd, class song; E. H. Smith, poetn ; F. W. Buse, cartoon ; F. E. King, cover ; E. II. Smith, dramatic sketch. The board of directors of the Student's Christian association have decided upon the inside finish for the new building and the plasteriug will be commenced as soon as the weather permits. The in9ide work will be rushed as soon as the whole of the $8,000 necessary to complete it is raised. Canvassers are now at work raising the money and are meeting with excellent suecess.
